Aerial Photo Retouching
Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of experience do you have in aerial photography retouching?
Over the past 8 years I've worked for a GIS Mapping firm developing both hard copy and digital images. Working within the Photogrammetry Division, I inspected and corrected thousands of digital aerial photographs. For more information or a copy of my resume' please contact me.
What services do you offer?
We offer complete image inspection, digital correction and final delivery services. See "typical job" below.
What kind of work do you do on a typical job?
On a typical job, every inch of each digital image is inspected at 1:1 or 100% magnification (delivery size). As needed, we correct the flaws that we find. Frequent flaws include scratches, dirt, hair, hot spots, splice lines and mosaic lines. We are able to fix some warped bridges and tilted buildings. If we find a problem that we can't fix we notify you so that you can regenerate the image. The frequent problems that we can not fix are usually created during data capture or during image generation. They are usually the result of missing dtm, incorrect dtm or incorrect information entered during image generation. Those problems include square black spots of missing data, warped and distorted ground features, missing sections of images, and incorrect image size.
How can I be sure the work will be done like I expect it to be done?
Once we have agreed on the terms completing your projcet (price, delivery time, etc.) we will send you a "Service Agreement" to sign. With your input, we can edit the agreement to protect you as well as The Imaging Dept from misunderstandings. Once the agreemtn is signed we will begin to perfect your images!
How do I get my images to and from you? CD? FTP?
You can send them to us on CD (Large or many files) or send them over the internet to our FTP site (small files). We inspect and correct them and then send the final images back to you or to your client whichever you wish. If you want us to send the original untouched images back to you along with a backup copy of the final images, we can do that too. We will keep a backup copy of your corrected images here at The Imaging Dept for at least 2 years.
How much does it cost to have our digital aerial images inspected and corrected?
A typical large project (200 images or more) which includes unclipped grayscale images at 5600 X 5600 usually costs about $10.00 per image. Smaller projects cost in the range of $15.00 per image. To get a good idea of how much your job might cost, take a look at the Aerial Price Sheet. To get an exact quote, you will need to send us several images on CD so that we may confirm the typical level of retouch work that will need to be performed.
What can I have on my CD Cover and CD label?
Our CD Covers and Labels page can give you an idea of what can be included on your covers and labels. Your logo can be included as well as your company's contact information such as address, phone, fax, etc. A list of the CD contents is often requested. If you desire a specific design or format just let us know and we will accomodate your wishes.
What if I need hard copy orthophotos? Do you offer digital printing services?
No, we don't offer printing services, but we work closely with a few high quality print labs that we can refer you to. If you need print services, we will send your "finished" images to the lab of your choice. (See "Links" for Print Services.") If you like, we will inspect the hard copy products and ship them to you or your client.
How and when will we be expected to pay for services?
That depends on the size of the project. We send out invoices at the end of each month. If your project is complete, we expect full payment. If your project is a work in progress, we will bill you for the images completed and delivered as of the date of the invoice.
